Familiarize yourself with golf: a few self-testing indicators of the little white ball

2024-06-05

Find a solid, flat floor at home, marble, tile or concrete. Lift the ball up (about 150 centimeters) and put it down to let it bounce. Observe and listen to the sound, elasticity, hardness and stability of each ball as it bounces.

Elasticity: It is not necessary to try the ball on the court. There is little difference between the static height of the bounce and the dynamic distance of the blow. For example, the spring coefficient of the club face (COR value) is also measured by taking a static test (83/100cm). Comparing the elasticity of different balls, although every manufacturer produces a distance ball labeled Distance, who is farther away? Drop both balls at the same height... Bounce the balls at the same height to find out.

Stability: See if the ball bounces in the same direction every time, or if it bounces erratically from left to right, forward to backward. The stability of the ball can be easily seen.

Softness: Listen to the sound of the ball when it hits the ground to hear the softness of the ball's inner layer or skin. Hard sound, soft sound or muffled sound.

Durability: Test a used ball by listening to the sound of the ball over and over again. The sound of a new ball is solid and consistent. The sound of a used ball is solid and consistent, while a used ball will have a forked sound after three or five bounces, which means that the inner layer of the ball has been dented to a certain extent, and the direction of the bounce will also show a back-and-forth, left-and-right, and variable bounce. The loss of distance is even more obvious, let the ball fall and keep bouncing until it doesn't move, such as the new ball can bounce eleven or two times before it stops, the old ball probably bounces seven or eight times before it closes.

From the bouncing of the ball, we can learn the difference and homogeneity between the balls produced by various brands, and it is not necessary to use expensive balls to meet our requirements. The most important thing is to measure the durability of the ball, which is absolutely related to the individual's hitting style and force. Knowing when it's time to replace the ball on the court can prevent a lot of unexpected errors from occurring.
